Time Strategies

For this assignment, I read The Important Habit of Just Starting by Jory Mackay and 4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination by Peter Banerjea.  These two articles were both informative and positive. The Important Habit of Just Starting pointed out issues of delay and the reasons behind it.  I really liked that, because it explained not only how to resolve the problem but it also included why we might be procrastinating.  It really showcased why it is important to set aside time and make specific goals in order to successfully start and finish a project. 4 Questions to Help You Overcome Procrastination was different because instead of suggesting checklists and planners, it offered another way to help you overcome the hurdles of starting.  It was interesting.  The questions are definitely some I will be asking myself whenever I feel stuck.  They are simple things that will make the overall, perhaps difficult, task easier to complete. Technology Orientation

Image
I am unfamiliar with some the technology tools we have been using this week, but I am really glad to be learning more about them.  I was mainly unaware of the different ways the tools could be used, especially in organizing separate bookmark folders so that it is easier to find what you need. The online environment is drastically different from my experiences in other classes.  However, the structure and self-paced schedule are appealing.  I like that I have the chance to learn more about technology tools without having to take an entirely separate class and that I can learn about these tools while also learning something that interests me. Assignments: Looking Back on Week 1

Image
At first glance I was hesitant.  I have never had a blog to share my thoughts on but the idea of putting my thoughts out for others to see has really grown on me.  Now, I feel really excited about the class assignments and the way we are doing them. It is a new and different style of learning and I am enjoying it.  The past assignments have really provoked my thoughts and pushed me into a different way of thinking.  It makes me feel like this class will be really fun and a great learning experience.  The extra credit options, such as the Wikipedia Trails, sound like they would be good exercises to get my mind in gear and help me develop my writing. Overall, this week has really made me think. Girl with a Book by José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior from Wikipedia

Growth Mindset

Image
I had never heard about Carol Dweck or growth mindset.  The idea was very intruiging and I was interested in the scientific studies.  I can see where the growth-fixed mindset can apply to my own learning, where I've been focused on progress and where I only participated for the best grade.  My own biggest challenge in putting the growth mindset to practice is overcoming the idea that grades have the most importance on my future.  I would really like to put more attention on other things, such as my friendships and expanding my knowledge. Introduction to Overactive Imagination

Hello!  My name is Lauren Skaggs, and here is a little history about me! Family My parents live in Oklahoma City, which is where I was born and raised.  I have a twin brother; his name is Braden.  We look absolutely nothing alike.  He is 6'1" to my 5'3" with thick brown hair that makes my strawberry blonde look like toupee.  My family has two dogs, Zander and Ginger.  Ginger loves to cuddle and hide under blankets when the wind is too loud.  Zander likes to pout and steal food off people's plates. (Personal Photo: Zander) (Personal Photo: Ginger) (Personal Video: Ginger Hiding) What I'm About When I was a kid, the very first thing I ever wanted to be was a priest.   I liked the songs we would sing at church, the people always bustling around, how everyone seemed to know each other.   Unfortunately – or fortunately, depending on how you like to view things – I wasn’t born with the right parts and I eventually moved on to o...

Storybook Favorites

Death's Story image from  Public Domain Pictures The storybook was interesting and different, focusing on the point of view of Death as opposed to showing the story through the eyes of those Death was taking.  The title did a good job of portraying that the story would be told in Death's voice.  However, I expected the stories within the storybook to include tales from several places as opposed to focusing on a particular region since the title is so broad.  The introduction lacked the same attention on the other stories while it focused strongly on the story of The Hardest One.  The unequal attention does make sense, since the final story is the most important to Death.  However, it would have made the other stories less confusing to explain them with more detail within the introduction. My Favorite Place... Hawaii

Image
My favorite place is Honolulu, Hawaii.  Honolulu is my favorite because Hawaii has so many wonderful memories of my family.  We took a vacation to the tropical paradise when I was young, but I still remember seeing huge turtles resting on the beach and collecting hundreds of seashells with my brother.
